Why DE10NANO.com?
Coming up with this domain name was completely planned out and sprouted around my deep passion for the DE10-nano FPGA system on a chip… Or not. I am a fan of the board and use the technology for a very important reason, to play old video games. Actually while sitting in my hotel room in Tempe, AZ I decided to start a blog and as part of that I needed a domain. I started with an owned domain: imdonavon.com but while moving DNS records around I broke my primary email DNS settings. After trying to fix it for a few hours I decided to create a new domain. I pondered how a domain name would signify what this on-line journal would be about. Problem is I don’t know what that really was/is. I mainly would like to get thoughts on to the page so I actually take time and effort into thinking through what I think, like, and do and put that into words. It seems to me that slowing down and doing this would help me know why I think, like, and do the things I do. So as you may be able to ascertain, I could not think of a name for a blog about… not much. But there, lying on the table in the room was a box that contained an item I brought with me this trip in the hopes of playing some old games and possible writing a review for a podcast I really like called “The Amigos”. Written on the side of the box in large print read: “DE-10 Nano”. This product is well known in the retro gaming and electronics hobbiest circles. I assumed that the domain name would be taken and to my surprise it was not, so $15 dollars later, a few adjustments and calls to the website host, BAM! the site was born. I may write on the subject of FPGA and retro gaming from time to time but it won’t be the focus. So why de10nano.com? It’s a random part of my life that represents aspects of things I think about and enjoy doing. So here I go, an online journal of randomness.
